Sempra LNG Celebrates MLK Day of Service Efforts in Houston with Veteran-Led Service Organization The Mission Continues

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?’ At Sempra LNG, one of our values is to champion people, and that means we embrace diversity and inclusion and invest in efforts that that strengthen communities.

This past Saturday, Sempra LNG was a proud sponsor of ‘The Mission Continues,’ a veteran-led service organization that helps better our communities. Our $15,000 contribution supported the Martin Luther King Jr Day of Service efforts at Felix Cook Elementary School, which is located in the largely underserved and predominately black community of Kashmere Gardens in Houston.

TMC volunteers created an outdoor classroom, built benches for outside seating and beautified the playground and campus. The event began with a program honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Felix Cook – the first black person to have a Houston ISD school named after him while living – and featured the winner of HISD’s ‘I Have A Dream’ oratory competition.

“We are grateful for this contribution from Sempra LNG during our Legacy of Service campaign to honor Martin Luther King Jr.,” said Meredith Darche, Senior Director of Development for The Mission Continues. “Thanks to their support, our veteran leaders are able to mobilize across Houston to help families recover from the effects of COVID-19 pandemic. Our efforts to fight food insecurity are ongoing, and we’re excited to continue to partner with Sempra LNG for a lasting positive impact in Houston.”
